Pictures from State Championships

Dear Rugby Texas Fans:

Congratulations to St. Thomas and Alliance for their championship victories on Sunday. Good luck to them and to Woodlands Rugby and Jesuit at Western Nationals in two weeks.

To view and purchase photos from this weekend simply click on:

http://teamdgl.exposuremanager.com/g/rugby_state_championships

Ordering photographs is quite simple, but I want to explain a few other items you may purchase on the site.

n  To order an individual poster simply order the one with your team and then email me at david@dglsportsphotos.com with the # of the photo you want on the poster and the player’s name.

n  I have made two championship posters for St. Thomas and Alliance that have the team photo taken after their victories that measure 16×7 on a 20×16 print. The extra space is for teammates and coaches to sign. With all the names signed to the poster it will make a great keepsake to frame.

n  Finally you can order a slideshow put to music of your team’s two games on a DVD. This is not a DVD that will allow you to print the photos. It works like a movie, comes in a DVD case with a cover (to be designed shortly) and will play the photos from the games. You can preview these movies at my blog: http://dglsportsphotos.com/. (DVDs will be mailed separate from photos)

I want to thank Rick Marshall and the Rugby Texas Committee for selecting me to be the official photographer of the state championships. I am donating a portion of the sales made by May 17, 2011 to Rugby Texas, so please order by that date as it helps Rugby Texas.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments please send me an email and I will respond.

Sincerely,

David G. Lewis

Woodlands Kicker at Football Showcase

This wasn’t just for kicks

Meya Bizer, a senior place kicker from The Woodlands, has an unorthodox delivery. Thomas B. Shea For the Chronicle

Woodlands kicker is only girl among 500 at football showcase

Hunched down in preparation for her 40-yard-dash attempt, Meya Bizer tried to block the distractions. She knew all eyes were locked on her the moment she lined up to race David Gamez — a hulking lineman nearly twice her size.

The attention was inevitable, considering Bizer was the only female participant at the third annual Greater Houston Senior Football Showcase, a program for overlooked senior football prospects to showcase their skills in front of college recruiters. Read the story on Chron.com

But once the whistle blew, gender disparity went out the window. And Bizer launched from her stance and whizzed past Gamez.

Practice Times and Field Change

Players and Parents,

Despite our very strong efforts, concessions and flexibility beginning last winter to secure adequate practice fields/times for this season at ABSP, we have once again been displaced by Rush soccer. We have a secured contract for our days/times at ABSP, and have unfortunately been cross-booked with Rush soccer at ABSP from 6-8 pm on Tues/Thurs as an honest error by Parks and Recreation. So the end result is that we have had to concede everything at ABSP and Rush has conceded none of the 6-8 pm overlap. I am working night and day to rectify this situation, but the reality is that we catch whatever scraps are left over as has been the case for years. I sincerely hope everyone knows we are committed to this community, and providing rugby to as many youth in our community to rugby who want to experience the greatest sport in the world.

While we are understandably very frustrated (as I am sure you will be), the reality is that we are (to use Coach Phil’s term…) ’second fiddle’ to Rush, and must accommodate whatever Parks tells us to do or we will be without a field completely. So please see the changes below for the respective teams.

Please understand that we have spoken with your respective coaches to ensure their flexibility and VERY much appreciate their willingness to be flexible!! We are all volunteers and have to work our schedules around practices/matches. So I would ask each age group to stop for a moment and appreciate the commitment from your respective coaches and certainly Coach Beck who has spent most of his day either with me dealing with Parks and with your coaches to ensure we have coverage for your players.

I would also like to thank each of you for your understanding as we move through these changes. We do understand each of you has a very busy life, and appreciate your flexibility as we sort the rest of our season. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally with questions/concerns. We will continue to push for some sort of recognition and equality regarding field allocation for community sports field allocation. We were assured this was happening this season, but as the ‘rubber hit the road’ this past week, it has been quite clear that we are far from that.

Regards and thank you again tremendously for your time, dedication and commitment to this great sport and organization.
