This past Sunday The Woodlands Youth Rugby Club capped an undefeated season with a 48-15 victory over the Dallas Herlequins Colts.

Rugby_Pic4The dominating final score legitimized the WYRC as the best team in Texas.  WYRC’s toughest match of the weekend was their semifinal match against CY-Fair, where they pounded out a 29-25 victory.

“We had a tough match Saturday against a well coached Cy-Fair team,” said WTRC Coach Frank Rizzo.

“It was a hard fought, back and forth game, it came down to the final minute. The Cy-Fair match really prepared us for our match Sunday against Dallas.”

The Colts were never in the match from the beginning as WTRC took a commanding 22-0 halftime lead and were never threatened for the title.

“We started out the morning of the Dallas match as a very focused team,” said Rizzo.

“Once the match began our leaders really kept our team focused and on task throughout the course of the day.  Kieran Farmer, Alex Raynor and Stijn Albers led this team to victory.”

Now that the 15-man season is complete up next for WYRC is the beginning of 7-man rugby beginning this summer.
